So what gives? Why is the Richfield Sun-Current not covering this issue? It appears that the Sun-Current has once again limited its traditional coverage to the low hanging fruit of round-a-bouts and high school sports. Sadly, following an issue in depth is not done by most community newspapers as it demands to many resources newspaper publishers are not willing to dedicate. However, the Sun-Current has not even devoted one word to this issue to date. I read in the city council minutes that they would be contacted about the community meetings.

Unfortunately it is either laziness or incompetence that guilds the the Sun-Current’s decision not to cover the redevelopment issue. That being said the publicizing of the meetings by those organizing them have been very poor. Their pat answer is we did x, y and z - it’s not our fault. Yet somehow a simple citizen flyering the neighborhood was able to get more people to turn out than all their efforts combined. I would say they need to look at their cookie cutter approach and that what has worked well (did it?) in other projects in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul may not work in an inner ring suburb.

Follow-up: After posting this article the Richfield Sun Current stopped coming to my house. Coincidence?

I finally got an issue Friday, April 25, 2008.
